American in Sweden

Hi, I moved from America to Sweden several years ago, and now I'm a permanent resident.

I'm not yet fluent in Swedish, so I will post here in English for a while. I might attempt to switch to Swedish later on.

I'm an atheist, and I look forward to philosophical discussion at these boards.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Welcome to Sweden Eudaimonist!

Nice to see that there are atheists even in USA :)

Is it possible for you when you are in USA to say that you are atheist?

Yes, there certainly are. I'm not certain how many. I would guess that somewhere between 0.5% and 5% of the US population are atheists. Surveys have come up with different results.

That depends on where one lives in the US. In some places, it might attract harassment from people who just can't accept that one is an atheist.

In others it won't, but many atheists decide to stay in the closet just in case they shock or offend someone. And if you are a politician, it is not usually a good idea to go public with one's lack of religious belief.
